This fairy tale, first published in 1843 in a collection called New Fairy Tales, has remained popular over the centuries. This lesson will take a look at some of the meaning found in the story and some key themes. The plot of the story is about a Chinese emperor who rejected a live nightingale for the fake song of a mechanical bird. As Death comes to claim the old emperor at the end of the tale, the real nightingale returns to sing for him. Death is so charmed by the lovely music that he spares the life of the dying man. http://www.andersen.sdu.dk/vaerk/hersholt/TheNightingale_e.html
https://www.illustrationweb.com/artists/MaeBesom/bio Mae uses traditional media, pencil and watercolour to create texture and light within her enchanting illustrations. She originally worked as a character designer in china though followed her passion of illustrating and became a full time children’s book illustrator in 2007.
http://lukescrivenillustration.com Luke Scriven has a seemingly simple but enticing style. His main mediums are watercolour and pens and as well as using a light box to create clean and beautiful scenes. He has been described as being able to capture emotions and expressions in just a few strokes of his tools. The animals and little people he paints are always there to tell a story. He has been inspired by artists such as Tove Janson or Maurice Sendak as well as heroes from videogames like Marion.
‘You have to use the white of the paper to your advantage!’ http://willterry.com “In my opinion, papers, hands and images can manage very interesting expression desires; that is why illustrations or picture books have the privilege of free narration and I am crazy about the beauties and the possibilities within them.”
After finishing his BFA project at BYU he began working for magazines and newspapers not far from where he grew up in Washington D.C. His early clients include publications such as Time, Money, Wall Street Journal and ads for Sprint, Pizza hut, M&M Mars, Fed Ex, and Master Card. He has illustrated about 30 children's books for Random House, Simon Schuste. I started my career as a professional comics illustrator in 1998. It is love that has led me to the world of artistic creation. In my opinion, papers, hands and images can manage very interesting expression desires; that is why illustrations or picture books have the privilege of free narration and I am crazy about the beauties and the possibilities within them. When I feel subtle sentiments, sad or happy, I hope I can use images to illustrate the common feeling about beauty. My life always walks hand in hand with illustration, moving forward and exploring the future.
